Animated Films by Andreas Hykade

Antitube teamed up with Cinémathèque québécoise to bring German director Andreas Hykade to Quebec City for a retrospective of his films, including the brand new Love and Theft. Hykade is one of the most talented and original voices in animation today, with awards from top festivals like Annecy, Ottawa, Zagreb, Hiroshima, and others to prove it. His work is marked by a subtle visual palette behind which often lurks somber, surreal, and even cruel themes. Yet the films overflow with empathy and human understanding, mixing fantastic images and personal memory. Hykade has made four short films and a large number of music videos and children’s programs. Love and Theft is a moving program capturing animation’s essential joyful playfulness.
